John William Covey

     John William Covey was born on 12 January 1853 at Stanstead, Stanstead Co, Quebec. He was the son of Gilbert Yearns Covey and Julia A. Currier. John William Covey was baptized on 17 September 1853 at Sacred Heart Church, Stanstead, Stanstead Co, Quebec. He married Minnie Scott.¹ John William Covey married Delia Beland, daughter of Dolphice Beland and Mary (?), on 26 July 1887 at Lawrence, Middlesex Co, Massachusetts; John Covey was 34, and it was his 2nd marriage, whereas Delia was 22 and her 1st marriage.² John William Covey died on 8 May 1909 at Methuen, Essex Co, Massachusetts, at age 56; John William Covey, stone mason, died of pneumonia at age 57, after being cared for for 4 days by Dr. James H. Parkhurst.³ He was buried on 10 May 1909 at Immaculate Conception Cemetery, Lawrence, Essex Co, Massachusetts.^4,5
     Not much is known of John Covey and his wife Della Beland. This writer suspects that Della died in childbirth with Nora in 1896, or as a result of that birth. The 1900 Census for Lawrence, MA lists the three boys, Arthur, Gilbert and Ernie as "inmates" of the "orphan asylum" on 183 Maple Street in Lawrence. Nora, the youngest child, was listed as the adopted daughter of Adolph Boland in Lawrence.⁶ He lived between 1891 and 1892 at Lawrence, Essex Co, Massachusetts.⁷
