Sylvester J. Covey

     Sylvester J. Covey was born in July 1842 at Stanstead, Stanstead Co, Quebec.¹ He was the son of James Covey and Harriet Jane Brown. Sylvester J. Covey married Clarissa Hannah Moore, daughter of Hosea Moore and Charlotte (?), on 4 August 1864 at Farmington, La Crosse Co, Wisconsin.^2,3 Sylvester J. Covey died in 1931 at Wisconsin.⁴ He was buried in 1931 at Oak Grove Cemetery, Section 20, La Crosse Co, Wisconsin; "Sylvester Covey, 1840-1931, Co, I 8th Wis. Vol."⁴
     He appeared on the census of 20 June 1870 at Farmington, La Crosse Co, Wisconsin; Sylvester Covey, was 30, born Canada, Clarissa was 24, born Indiana, and had with them son Edward, 4, and Charlotte Moore, aged 50, born VT.⁵ He appeared on the census of June 1880 at Farmington, La Crosse Co, Wisconsin; Sylvester Covey, 37, b. Canada, Clara H., 31, b. IN, Edgar A., 15, b. WI, Olive B., 6, b. WI, Nandy V., 1 along with Lizzie Mathewson, 18, b. NY.⁶ He appeared on the census of 1900 at La Crosse, La Crosse Co, Wisconsin; Sylvester Covey, b. Jul 1842 Canada; Clara, b. Jun 1850 IN; Maude, b. Dec 1879, WI; Bert, b. Sep 1882 WI; Blanch, b. Jul 1884 WI; and Lester, b. May 1890. Sylvester and Clara had six children, all living.¹
