     Samuel Salls was born on 24 November 1790 at Noyan, Missisquoi Co, Quebec; The Land document mentions Hix' son Stephen Hix Salls "of about 13 years, and Samuel Salls, still younger", both under by he wished to obtain Crown lands for them as well as his older sons in 1795.1,2 He was the son of Hix Salls and Mary Briggs. Samuel Salls married Sarah Butler, daughter of James Butler and Eunice Kinsley, on 21 February 1811. Samuel Salls died on 21 February 1875 at Canton, St Lawrence Co, New York, at age 84.3 He was buried at West Potsdam Cemetery, Potsdam, Saint Lawrence Co, New York.1
     On 8 July 1824, Hix Salls and Mary Briggs, his wife, made a Donation "from parental affection and regard for Samuel Salls their son...and a view to his establishment and the welfare of him and his family in this world". They transferred land in Lot #14 in Noyan, of the fifth range. If his death was to precede his present wife, Sarah "Buttler", or a subsequent one, the land would remain within them only until their male issue reached the age of 21. The document was written at the house of Hix Salls, and while Hix and Samuel borth signed their names, Mary "declared she is now incapable of writing her name" and made a cross.

On 3 Oct 1825, this was revoked and freed Samuel from any of the particulars mentioned in the before mentioned document. This was passed before the notary, Demaray.4 He appeared on the census of 13 August 1850 at Potsdam, Saint Lawrence Co, New York; Samuel Salls, 66, b. NY; Sarah, 60, b. VT; Caroline, 26, b. Canada; Emerline, 21, and Ellen, 17, both born New York.5 He appeared on the census of 1870 at Kaneville, Kane Co, Illinois; Samuel Salls, 79, was living with James B. Salls, 58, Rachel, 57, James H., 19, and what may be Rachel's son, Charles Smith, 13.6
