Marshall John Scott was born on 4 February 1860 at Clarenceville, Missisquoi Co, Quebec. He was the son of Rutherford D. Scott and Adeline Adelia Young. Marshall John Scott was baptized on 8 May 1864 at Clarenceville, Missisquoi Co, Quebec; Clarenceville Methodist Church. He died on 16 February 1917 at Winnebago Co, Wisconsin, at age 57; death records, Winnebago Courthouse, Vol 24, p 34.
According to Lawson's "History of Winnebago County", Marshall J. Scott spent nearly all his life in Neenah township. However, the book also states he was born 4 Feb 1851 and came to Menasha in 1859 at age 8. Baptism records at Clarenceville's Methodist Church show he was born 1860 and was baptised there in 1864. He acquired his education from the district schools in Menasha and has spent his life on the farm of 150 acres that his father had originally owned, dairying and raising stock. He was known as someone "esteemed by his neighbors, and all who know him, for his sturdy manliness and sterling worth, and none is more ready...to give help...in time of need, or more appreciative of kindness..." Marshall, like his parents, was a Republican and a great supporter of the Methodist Episcopal Church.1 He and Adeline Adelia Young appeared on the census of 14 June 1900 at Menasha, Winnebago Co, Wisconsin; Mark Scott, 38, b. Feb 1862, single; Adeline, mother, 64, b.Nov 1835, wid; and Grace, 25, b. May 1875, married. Grace had borne two children, with none living.2
