Samuel Sharpe Sloan

M, b. 29 October 1862
     Samuel Sharpe Sloan was born on 29 October 1862 at Delbede, Kinkcudbrightshire, Scotland.1 He has also be reported to have been born 29 November 1863 Scotland.2 He married Amy Celia Salls, daughter of Samuel Parker Salls and Ada Maria Williams, on 8 April 1893 at Glines Corners, Stanstead Co, Quebec.1,3
     According to family history, Samuel spent two months working on the freight boat, earning passage, which took him to America. He stayed with his brother James in Westerly, Rhode Island for a time, and later was living in Barre, Vermont, working in a granite quarry. He eventually arrived in Graniteville, Quebec where he married, built a home (still standing in 1982) and worked for Brodie Granite Company. After his wife's death in March, 1931, he resided with his daughter Clarene (Mrs. Chauncy Brewer) in North Derby, Vermont until he passed away.1
