Asahel H. Scott

     Asahel H. Scott was born in September 1858 at Clarenceville, Missisquoi Co, Quebec. He was the son of John Scott Jr. and Sarah Young. Asahel H. Scott married Emily Sarah Collins on 9 August 1881 at Holyoke, Hampden Co, Massachusetts; Their marriage record indicates they were both residents of Holyoke. "Acil" was 22 years old and a carpenter, and Emily was 19.^1,2 Asahel H. Scott died on 13 June 1936 at Huntingdon, Huntingdon Co, Quebec, at age 77; "A.H. Scott, died at at his residence in Huntingdon PQ, age 79 years. Interred in Huntingdon PQ. He was born in Clarenceville PQ, living in New York and Holyoke MA where he was married to Emily Collins in 1881. They later moved back to Burke, NY and came to Huntingdon in 1908. Eight children were born to this union of whom four our living. They are, Winifred, Mrs Frank Helm of Chateauguay New York, Miss Mildred Scott at home, A. E. Scott of Belmont MA, and Henry M. Scott of Albany, New York. Funeral was held at the home with the Rev. J. H. Miller, DD officiating."^3,4 He was buried on 15 June 1936 at Huntingdon Cemetery, Huntingdon Co, Quebec.³
     He appeared on the census of June 1900 at Burke, Franklin Co, New York; This shows Asel Scott b. Sep 1859, aged 40, Emmy, b. Apr 1862, 38. She had 8 children but only 7 living, and they were married 19 yrs. Also lists Winnie, 16, Walter, 13, Albert 11, Fred, 9, Alice, 6, Henry 4, Mildred 2. The birthdates the writer has come from that 1900 census.⁵ He appeared on the census of 1905 at Burke, Franklin Co, New York; The census shows that Asel and his wife Emily had been in the U.S. for 28 years.⁶
