     Joseph Daley was born on 9 July 1830 at Red Head, Saint John Co, New Brunswick.1 He was the son of David Daley and Sarah Stanley. Joseph Daley married Mary Hepburn, daughter of Edmund Hepburn, circa 1860. Joseph Daley died on 20 May 1907 at Old Loch Lomond Road, Saint John, Saint John Co, New Brunswick, at age 76; The record says he died of old age, and had been a carpenter.2 He was buried on 22 May 1907 at Methodist Burying Ground, Saint John, Saint John Co, New Brunswick.
     He appeared on the census of 1861 at Albert Ward, Saint John, Saint John Co, New Brunswick; The 1861 census shows Joseph, aged 32, Mary, 30 and child, Amanda E. Daley, aged 1. He lived between 1863 and 1864 at Watson & Winslow, Saint John, Saint John Co, New Brunswick; St John Directories. He lived between 1865 and 1866 at Rodney and Market place, Carleton, Saint John, Saint John Co, New Brunswick; St John Directory. He lived in 1871 at Rodney Street, Saint John, Saint John Co, New Brunswick; St John Directory. He appeared on the census of 1871 at Saint John, Saint John Co, New Brunswick; Joseph Daley, 42, Mary, 37, Amanda, 12, Mary J., 9, Emeline, 9, Henry, 7, Florence, 5 and Caroline, 2. All were born New Brunswick, and they were Baptist. MaryJ. and Eveline were listed as twins.3 He was blacksmith in 1876 at Saint John, Saint John Co, New Brunswick. He lived in 1876 at Erin Street, Saint John, Saint John Co, New Brunswick; Listed as a boarder in St John Directory. He appeared on the census of 1881 at Ward 4, Portland, Saint John Co, New Brunswick; Joseph, 49, Mary, 48, and children listed as being Baptists of Irish origin. Eveline, 18, Mabel, 18, Carrie L., 10, Blanche, 8, Henry, 14, and William, 1. Joseph was a carpenter and William was an apprentice.4 He lived between 1883 and 1884 at Old Westmoreland Road, Saint John, Saint John Co, New Brunswick; St John Directory. He and Mary Hepburn appeared on the census of 6 May 1891 at Portland, Saint John, Saint John Co, New Brunswick; Joseph Daley was 63, a Baptist, house carpenter, Mary was 62, her father born in Scotland, and her mother in the US. Son Henry was 25 and a blacksmith, daughter Jennie was 12. No son William was listed.5 Joseph Daley appeared on the census of 1901 at Victoria Ward, Saint John, Saint John Co, New Brunswick; Joseph Daley, 70, English heritage, Mary, 74, Scotch heritage, along with their grandson, Sylvester Arrowsmith, erroneously listed as step-son, 14, and daughter, Jennie, 21. Joseph was a carpenter, and he and Mary, and Jennie were Baptists. Sylvester was Anglican, and a student.

Joseph, 70, was also listed as a lodger in the home of Henry "Daly" and wife Agnes along with Patience Morrison, then 76. It was unmistakeably him as the birthdate: 9 Jul 1830 was given for both entries in the census.1,6 He was Carpenter in 1907. He lived in 1907 at Thorne Avenue, Saint John, Saint John Co, New Brunswick; Saint John City Directory.
