     Mariah West was born on 23 December 1765 at Liverpool, Queens Co, Nova Scotia. She was the daughter of John West and Phoebe Freeman. Mariah West married John Howard on 14 April 1782 at Liverpool, Queens Co, Nova Scotia.1 Mariah West died on 30 June 1782 at Halifax, Halifax Co, Nova Scotia, at age 16; "July 5, 1782, Mr. Tinkham's Shallop arrives from Halifax, brings a confirmation of the death of Mrs. Mariah Howard, Capt. John Howard's young wife, the daughter of Capt. John West of this town. She was enoculated for the small pox".2
