Margaret Rozelle was born circa 1745 at Les Trois Ilets, Martinique. She married John Brown on 19 April 1763 at Martinique, West Indies.1 Margaret Rozelle died on 20 January 1815 at Nova Scotia.
John Brown's widow, Margaret and her daughter Elizabeth lived on what little money they had saved and had taken with them from New Jersey, until James Kerr married Elizabeth in 1782.
Soon after the marriage the Kerrs went to Scotland and Margaret Rozelle Brown must have accompanied them.
The Commissioners refused Margaret an allowance or a pension as a Loyalist's widow on the ground that her husband was indifferent as to which army he served. She was, however, granted compensation for the loss of his real estate and given 25 pounds to help defray her expenses to travel to Nova Scotia from London in 1786 with her only daughter, son-in-law and family.1
