Joseph Williams Beynon was born circa 1813 at Halifax, Halifax Co, Nova Scotia. He was the son of Morgan/James Beynon and Hannah Williams. Joseph Williams Beynon married Mary Matthews after 28 March 1835 at Halifax, Halifax Co, Nova Scotia.1 A bond for the marriage of Joseph Williams Beynon and Mary Matthews was signed on 28 March 1835 at Halifax, Halifax Co, Nova Scotia; Joseph Beynon, bachelor of Halifax, confectioner, signed a marriage bond to Mary Mathews 28 March 1835. James Mathews [Matthews] of Halifax also signed the bond.1 Joseph Williams Beynon died on 29 August 1876 at Providence, Providence Co, Rhode Island; The burial record states he died of brain disease.2 He was buried on 18 November 1876 at Swan Point Cemetery, Providence, Providence Co, Rhode Island; He is buried in Group 2 Lot 10. Burial record shows he was the son of James Beynon and Hannah Williams and born in Halifax.
On 13 Dec 1831, Joseph Beynon, 18, confectioner, arrived in Boston from Halifax aboard the schooner Forrest. He listed on the manifest that his intention was to be a resident of Halifax, so must have returned shortly afterward.3 He lived 1837 at 333 Hudson Street, New York City, New York.4 He appeared on the census of 13 July 1860 at Providence, Providence Co, Rhode Island; The family was enumerated as BENYON: Joseph W., 48, b. Nova Scotia, confectioner, Mary, 43, Joseph 21, Margaret, 19, and William, 18 all born New Brunswick; Mary, 14, Henry, 10, both born RI, and living with them was Thomas White, 21, and Henry Mason, 17, both confectioners.5 He appeared on the census of 23 June 1870 at Providence, Providence Co, Rhode Island; Joseph N. Beynon, 54, born Nova Scotia, Mary, 50, born New Brunswick and dau Mary E., 20, born Rhode Island. He was a confectioner.6
