According to the History of Cherokee County, Iowa, Samuel Scott was known as a pioneer, having settled there in 1869. Much of the information given in his biography is not accurate, so one must have to look at it for what it was. All the biographies seem to build up the settlers in that area. Items of a contemporary time may be more accurate. Info on their parents is far askew.
It does mention that "Mr. Scott" removed to Hamilton County, Canada and worked in a factory for a few months before coming to Marshalltown, Iowa. In 1863 he supposedly removed to Boone County where he lived for six years before arriving in Cherokee County where he purchased eight acres of land. This land grew to 200 acres by the time the book was published.3 He appeared on the census of 30 July 1860 at Marshall, Marshall Co, Iowa.4 He appeared on the census of 30 June 1870 at Cedar, Cherokee Co, Iowa; Samuel Scott, 44, Sarah, 42, Sylvester, 22, Cecilia, 18, Edna, 16, Emma, 14, Elmer, 12 and Lester, 10. Children before Emma were b. Canada, and the others were b.
