James Akin
M, b. 18 October 1728, d. 24 January 1817
James Akin was born on 18 October 1728 at Dartmouth, Bristol Co, Massachusetts; V.R., Vol 1, p. 16. He married Patience Howard, daughter of Edward Howard and Sarah (?), in 1749.1 James Akin died on 24 January 1817 at Pawling, Dutchess Co, New York, at age 88.
James Akin was a blacksmith. The 1757 tax list for Beekman assessed him at 3 pounds. In January 1761, the family was living on a 75 acre farm in Lot 36 of the Oblong. He was an overseer of the poor in Pawling 1788. He may have been the James Akin who purchased land in Smithfield, Vermont in 1763.
James Akin wrote his will 25 February 1811 and mentioned his wife, children and grandchildren. It was proved 22 October 1817.
