Thomas Manchester was born circa 1620 at Yorkshire, England.1 He married Margaret Wood, daughter of John Wood and Margaret Carter, in 1655 at Portsmouth, Newport Co, Rhode Island. Thomas Manchester died in 1691 at Portsmouth, Newport Co, Rhode Island.1
Thomas Manchester may have been one of the settlers from Yorkshire, England who came to America in October 1638 with the non-Conformist minister Ezekiel Rogers. In 1639, he was recorded as being of Quinnipiac, now New Haven, Connecticut. Thomas removed to Portsmouth, Rhode Island before 1642 and on 25 February 1642, he was chosen to serve on the next jury. He served as town sergeant from 1674 until his death. He owned considerable land in Portsmouth as well as a portion of Quononoqutt Isalnd and Dutch Island.
