John Cook was born circa 1630. He was the son of Thomas Cooke alias Butcher and Mary (?). John Cook was baptized on 30 March 1630 at St Mary's, Netherbury, Dorset, England. He married Mary Borden, daughter of Richard Borden and Joan Fowle, circa 1652 at Portsmouth, Newport Co, Rhode Island.1 John Cook died on 16 May 1691 at Portsmouth, Newport Co, Rhode Island.
John Cook and his wife Mary Borden purchased 16 and 19 shares of land in Pocasset (Portsmouth). John was listed as a freeman in 1655 and in 1668 he was running a ferry there with Daniel Wilcox. John Cook was deputy to the Governor in 1670.
