Robert Kerr was born circa 1796 at Cornwallis, Kings Co, Nova Scotia. He was the son of James Kerr and Elizabeth Brown. Robert Kerr married Jane Kelt on 4 October 1826 at Wallace, Cumberland Co, Nova Scotia. Robert Kerr died on 7 September 1834 at Wallace, Cumberland Co, Nova Scotia. He was buried at Wallace, Cumberland Co, Nova Scotia; Wallace Old Methodist Cemetery.
Robert Kerr settled in Wallace, Cumberland County, Nova Scotia and worked in a partnership with his younger brother, Joseph, in Amherst, in the operation of a sawmill, a gristmill and a carding mill on the Wallace River. He was also known as a merchant.
Robert Kerr died from drowning after he fell from a bridge crossing the Wallace River in "his 38th year".
