James Kirk

     James Kirk was born in 1795 at St Andrews, Fifeshire, Scotland. He married Barbara Matthews, daughter of George Matthews, on 7 January 1823 at Saint John, Saint John Co, New Brunswick. James Kirk married Charlotte Kerr, daughter of James Kerr and Elizabeth Brown, on 13 January 1835 at Saint John, Saint John Co, New Brunswick; James Kirk was a merchant in Saint John and Charlotte was the youngest daughter of the late Colonel Kerr of Parrsboro, NS.1 James Kirk died on 15 May 1873 at Portland, Saint John, Saint John Co, New Brunswick.2 He was buried on 17 May 1873 at Fernhill Cemetery, Saint John, Saint John Co, New Brunswick; The funeral was held at the home of John Harron/Barron, on Main Street at 3:30 PM.3
     The records of Fernhill Cemetery show he owned Lot #3970-A on Lilac Path, and this was transferred to Charlotte Chandler "daughter and only surviving heir of James Kirk, deceased" on 8 June 1917. Also buried there was his "eldest daughter, Jane H. Kirk, who was buried 7 Jan 1890, aged 66 years.
