James Elderkin was born on 6 June 1791 at Horton, Kings Co, Nova Scotia. He was the son of Jeptha Elderkin and Emma Johnson. James Elderkin married Elizabeth Kerr, daughter of James Kerr and Elizabeth Brown, circa 1815; Elizabeth married James Elderkin probably between 1812 and 1815, although no record has yet been located. It is apparant they lived at Apple River, as that is where James inherited a farm. James Elderkin died on 21 October 1865 at Amherst, Cumberland Co, Nova Scotia, at age 74; A.D. Gates, 13 Sept 1989.
