James Beckwith was born on 15 February 1779 at Cornwallis, Kings Co, Nova Scotia. He was the son of Asa Beckwith and Mary Morton. James Beckwith married Jennet Kerr, daughter of James Kerr and Elizabeth Brown, in 1808. James Beckwith died on 8 December 1815 at Chatham, New Brunswick, at age 36.
