John Patterson Jr was born on 25 April 1724 at Brookfield, Worcester Co, Massachusetts.1 He was the son of John Patterson and Mary (?). John Patterson Jr married Rebecca (?) on 7 December 1758 at Barre, Worcester Co, Massachusetts.2
John Patterson of Rutland is listed in N.S. Voy's "Massachusetts Officers in the French & Indian Wars 1748-1763" as a Lt. in Captain Andrew Dalrymple's Company, Col. Jedediah Preble's Regiment. He served a total of 8 months and 17 days from 13 Mar 1758 to 8 Nov 1758 on the Canadian military expedition.3 John Patterson Jr had filed their marriage intention on 22 October 1757 at Greenwich, Worcester Co, Massachusetts; John Patterson was of Rutland District, and Rebeckah Inglish was of Greenwich; published 7 Nov 1757, by Nathan Frisk, Town Clerk.4 It is evident from a land deed dated 26 Feb 1778 that John Patterson Jr. and his brother Jacob sold 240 acres of land in Barre that John was then living on to Jonathan Danforth with the approval of "Rebecca Patterson, wife of said John and Isabel Patterson wife of said Jacob in token of our free consent...and all our right of dower". It seems likely that this is when both John and Jacob and their families removed to Salem, NY.5
