Gloucester, Essex Co, Massachusetts.

Gloucester, Essex Co, Massachusetts; Administration was granted on his estate on 2 May 1769.
3 Jonathan Bennett was known to be a merchant, trader and mariner, and referenced as Capt. Jonathan Bennett in several sources.
3 According to the family account of Martha Squires Cox in 1906, Jonathan owned and island estate with slaves in Portland Bay. He and a son were drowned crossing the bay. When daughter Martha and a brother divided the property, she freed her slaves. This writer has no idea as to the accuracy of this accoount. It would be necessary to find more information on Martha's brothers.
