David Belding was born on 7 January 1798 at Saint John, Saint John Co, New Brunswick. He was the son of Daniel Belding and Mabel Bristall. David Belding married Jane Thomas on 22 January 1825 at Trinity Anglican Church, Saint John, Saint John Co, New Brunswick; witnesses: Thomas Thomas, Matilda Coster. They were married by Rev. F. Coster. David Belding died on 1 May 1883 at Chance Harbour, Saint John Co, New Brunswick, at age 85; "d. Chance Harbour, 1st instant, David Belding, age 85. Brother Belding was a descendant of the Loyalists and a member of the Baptist church for a number of years."1
David Belding's house was near the location of the present Baptist Church, with frontage on the west at Belding's Creek, and on the east by the harbour. In the next generation this land was divided between the Tiner and the Hargrove families.
Supposedly, David Belding lost a hand in a shooting accident at the age of sixteen years.2 He appeared on the census of 1881 at Musquash, Saint John Co, New Brunswick; David Belding was living with his son-in-law, George Hargrove and his daughter, Drusilla.3
