     John Patterson was born circa 1773 at Barre, Worcester Co, Massachusetts.1 He was the son of John Patterson Jr and Rebecca (?). John Patterson was baptized on 11 April 1773 at First Church of Barre, Barre, Worcester Co, Massachusetts.1 He married Sally (?).2 John Patterson married Susanna McCracken, daughter of Joseph McCracken, Col. and Sarah Turner, on 6 January 1820; It is not known if the marriage took place in John's former residence of Salem, NY where the McCrackens lived, or in Vermont, where he had been living at that time.3 John Patterson died on 19 May 1848 at Bangor, Franklin Co, New York. He was buried at Keeler Cemetery, Bangor, Franklin Co, New York.4
     John is referred to as Captain John Patterson on the gravestone of his first wife, Sally. Documentation needs to be located giving us his service record, probably during the War of 1812.
