     Ebenezer Kerr was born on 31 January 1836.1,2 He was the son of Ebenezer Kerr and Carolyn Lavinia Gesner. Ebenezer Kerr married Amanda Pettis, daughter of Elisha Pettis and Hannah Merriam, on 7 February 1860 at Port Greville, Cumberland Co, Nova Scotia.1,3 Ebenezer Kerr died on 29 June 1925 at Fox River, Cumberland Co, Nova Scotia, at age 89; Capt. Minudie, July 28 - There passed away at his residence at Fox River recently,
Captain Eben Kerr, the last male representative of a large family, well
known throughout Cumberland County. The late Captain Kerr belonged to United
Loyalist Stock. His grandfather, Colonel James Kerr, of the Queen's Rangers,
settled first in Kings County, then later moved to Parrsboro. Captain Kerr
settled at Fox River and took up farming, and was a magistrate, the only one
of his time living in that end of Cumberland County. He was a man of great
piety and with his dispersion of law, dispensed quotations from the
Scriptures. Captain Kerr's mother, Caroline Kerr, was a sister of the late
Dr. Abram Gesner, renowned geologist and the first discoverer of paraffin
oil. The late Captain Eben Kerr after following the sea for a number of
years retired and turned his attention to farming, and resided in Minudie.
The last part of his life was spent at his native place, Fox River, where he
represented the Manufacturer's Life Insurance Co. In religion, Captain Kerr
was a staunch Methodist and in politics a strong Conservative. Besides his
wife there survive three sons and one daughter, Capt. Robert Kerr, of Port
Greville; Wilfred Kerr, of Eureka, California; and Harris Kerr,
Saskatchewan; Miss Minnie Kerr, living at home; and one sister, Mrs. Ephraim
Seaman, Minudie.2,4 He was buried on 1 July 1925 at Methodist Cemetery, Port Greville, Cumberland Co, Nova Scotia.2
