Gilbert Wayne was born on 11 July 1849 at Saint John Co, New Brunswick.1 He married Jane Amelia Thompson, daughter of Robert Thompson and Mabel Belding, in 1877 at Saint John Co, New Brunswick.2
Gilbert Wayne appeared on the census of 1881 at Musquash, Saint John Co, New Brunswick; Gilbert Wayne, 28, Jane Amelia, 29, Walter, 3, Howard Clifton, 1, Arthur, b. Mar 1881. There was also a Mary Alice DeWolfe, 16, living with them. Gilbert and children were Presbyterian, and Jane was Baptist.3 Gilbert Wayne was also known as Gilbreath Wenn.1
