Mary Olivia McLean

     Mary Olivia McLean was born on 31 October 1856 at Saint John Co, New Brunswick.¹ She was the daughter of Edward McLean and Hannah Wood. Mary Olivia McLean married John Matthews on 9 September 1891 at Saint John, Saint John Co, New Brunswick.² Mary Olivia McLean died on 9 April 1914 at Saint John, Saint John Co, New Brunswick, at age 57; Mary died in her 57th year at her home. She was survived by her husband, a daughter, Mrs. F.J. McConaghey of Winnipeg and a son, Allen, who lived at home. The obituary states her residence was on Exmouth Street, but all city directories state she lived at 30 Rock Street.³ She was buried on 11 April 1914 at Methodist Cemetery, Saint John, Saint John Co, New Brunswick.
     She appeared on the census of 1881 at Saint John, Saint John Co, New Brunswick; Mary Olivia was living with Nathan and Rebecca McLellen, her uncle and aunt following the death of her father.⁴
