Loyal Oliver

     Loyal Oliver was born on 26 August 1794 at Bridport, Addison Co, Vermont.¹ He married Margaret Weeks circa 1817 at Clinton Co, New York.¹ Loyal Oliver married Elizabeth Wait, daughter of Briggs Wait and Mary Sheer/Shier, after 1841. Loyal Oliver died on 28 June 1874 at Rouse's Point, Clinton Co, New York, at age 79; Plattsburgh Sentinel, -- died at Rouse's Point - June 28, 1874 of heart disease, Loyal Oliver, oldest inhabitant in that locality, 81 years of age. Buried with all due respect on the 30th.¹

He was buried on 30 June 1874 at Maple Hill Cemetery, Rouse's Point, Clinton Co, New York.^1,2
     The 1820, 1830, and 1840 US Federal census records show that Loyal Oliver was residing in Champlain, Clinton County, New York. In 1853, Loyal & Elizabeth deeded land to Orris & Martha and moved to Canada. Looking on a map, it is easy to see that Lacolle is directly across the border from Rouse's Pt., NY (about 10 miles).¹ The 1861 census for Lacolle lists Loyal Oliver, aged 68, born the US and his wife, Elizabeth aged 64. Next door was a son of Oliver's presumably by his first marriage, Stephen K. Oliver 41, his wife Elizabeth, 36 and their children.
