     Bertrade de Montfort was born in 1070 at Montfort, France. She was the daughter of Simon De Montfort and Agnes de Everaux. Bertrade de Montfort married Fulk IV of Anjou, son of Count Geoffrey II of Gâtinais and (?) Ermengarde de Anjou, in 1089 at France; She became the 5th wife of Fulk IV, but left him after having a son, Fulk V, going to live at the court of the King of France.1 Bertrade de Montfort married Philip I King of France, son of Henry I of France and Anna of Kiev, on 15 May 1092; Bertrade left her husband and took up with King Philip I of France. They married despite the fact they both had living spouses. Philip was so enamoured with her, he was excommunicated and prevented from participating in the First Crusade.2 Bertrade de Montfort died on 14 February 1117 at Fontevrault, France.
