Count Floris I of Holland was born in 1017. He was the son of Dirk III of Holland and Princess Otehilde of Germany. Count Floris I of Holland married Gertrud of Saxony, daughter of Duke Bernhard II of Saxony and Elica of Schweinfurt, circa 1050. Count Floris I of Holland died on 28 June 1061 at Gelderland, Netherlands; On a retreat from Zaltbommel he was ambushed and killed in battle at Nederhemert (called Hamerth at the time).1
