     Count Baldwin III of Flanders was born circa 940. He was the son of Arnulf I of Flanders and Adela De Vermandois. Count Baldwin III of Flanders married Mathilde (Maud) Billung of Saxony, daughter of Duke Hermann Billung and Hildegardis, in 961. Count Baldwin III of Flanders died on 1 November 962; Arnulf had made Baldwin his heir and co-ruler in 958, but Baldwin died in 962, so Arnulf was succeeded by Baldwin's infant son, Arnulf II of Flanders.1
