     Ernest Beauford Gardiner was born on 24 July 1883 at Waterville, Carleton Co, New Brunswick.2,1 He married Lucy Grant Estabrook, daughter of James Steven Estabrook and Olivia Jane Benjamin, on 5 September 1906.3 Ernest Beauford Gardiner died on 10 September 1946 at Houlton, Aroostook Co, Maine, at age 63.4
     "The name change from Gardiner
to Gardner was a result of a typographical error when Ernest's birth
records were registered. Ernest Gardner has two birth certificates. Sequentially issued, G-14 & G-15. It looks like they left off Ernest's middle name... To correct it, they issued a 2nd birth certificate, but accidentally spelled the lads name "Gardner" instead
of "Gardiner." ...When Ernest later moved into the US, the only birth certificate that Ernest could produce was the one with the incorrectly spelled last name, and the legal name stuck."5
