Vern W. Speer

     Vern W. Speer was born on 30 January 1876 at Ohio.^2,1,3 He was the son of Lydia J. Morrison.³ Vern W. Speer married Zoe Edna Welker on 30 November 1907 at Orange, Hancock Co, Ohio. Vern W. Speer married Mabel (?) before September 1918 at Ohio.^4,2 Vern W. Speer married Alice J. Campbell, daughter of Amos A. Campbell and Augusta Benjamin, between 1920 and 1930 at Washington. Vern W. Speer died on 29 January 1949 at Island Co, Washington, at age 72.⁵
     On 12 September 1918, Vern Speer registered for the Draft in Washington State. His wife's name was listed as Mabel at that time. He was 5' 9 1/4" tall, red hair and blue eyes, and had a slight limp. he was a shipwright with Meachum Babcock in the shipyard in Seattle.² He appeared on the census of January 1920 at W. 51st Street, Seattle, King Co, Washington; Vern W. "Spear", 43, was living in Seattle with his 2nd wife, Mabel, 33, both b. Ohio, along with their son Jack, aged 1 yr 11 mos, b. Washington. They had several boarders living with them at that time.⁴
