Johannes Brust was born on 2 April 1760 at New York. He was baptized circa 1760 at St Paul's, Rhinebeck, Dutchess Co, New York. He was the son of Johannes Jacob Brust and Anna Katherina Wolff. Johannes Brust married Catherina Coonradt (Conrad), daughter of Henry Coonradt (Conrad) and Lea (?). Johannes Brust died on 5 March 1832 at Brunswick, Rensselaer Co, New York, at age 71; gravestone, ae 70y-11m-27d. He was buried at Gilead Lutheran Church, Centre Brunswick, Rensselaer Co, New York.
John Brust's will was dated 4 February 1832, and recorded 19 April 1832. He left his real estate to his only son, Henry and money to be divided amongst Henry's eight sisters (named as Catherine, Lidda, Regina, Mary, Magdelena, Sally, Jane, and Hannah).
John Cleveland was named as guardian for the two youngest daughters, Jane and Hannah Brust.
