Luzerne County Deaths: 1893 to mid 1905 ONLY The Death Registers at the Luzerne Co. courthouse contain the name, date of death, marital status, town where death occurred, town of burial, occupation, and date of record. There are a few records where the first names of the parents are entered, but not many. The recording of Deaths was on a voluntary basis, so many families did not report the event. The state took over in 1906, and those records can be ordered from the Bureau of Vital Statistics in New Castle, PA, The cost is $9.00 for a death certificate, but there are certain criteria to meet. Please read the directions carefully. For deaths AFTER 1905, please visit their web site at: www.dsf.health.state.pa.us/health/cwp/view.asp?a=168&Q=202184 Please make sure to put "DEATHS" in the subject line so our researchers know it is not SPAM.
