Loose Record Transcriptions-Sumner Co., TN
Loose Record Transcriptions
From Sumner County, Tennessee

INDEX

What are loose records?       "Loose Records" are just that--they are packets of different documents that pertain to one legal proceeding that includes anything from warrants or lists of items sold at an estate sale to depositions and court transcripts. These documents and scraps of paper were bundled together by the Clerk and Master, tied with a cord similar to a shoestring and tucked away for a couple hundred years. Other records, such as Poor House Records, Trial Dockets, Deed Indexes, Estate Sales, etc. were recorded by the County Clerk into large suede-leather bound books which can be found today at the Archives.

Ok, so how would these records help me in my research?    These records vary in what they contain, I've found nothing. Then again, I've found deeds, will copies any one of which would contain multiple generations of descendancy, trails of migration, slave names and ages, and explanations to otherwise unanswered questions I'd had about my ancestors.
