The Peters Colony Historical Society of Dallas County, Texas
is an organization that has worked diligently since September, 1971
to preserve the history of the Peters Colony settlers of Dallas
County and their descendants. Four of the original Peters Colony pioneers are buried at
Webb Chapel Cemetery.
They are:
The Peters Colony Historical Society (PCHS) for many years published a journal called Elm Fork Echoes. It was initially published semi-annually and then annually through 2005. They also sponsored the publication of the book Elm Fork Settlement : Farmers Branch and Carrollton which was compiled and written by Georgia Myers Ogle. It was republished several years ago and is available for purchase from PCHS. Both of these publications have been very helpful in locating information about the descendants of persons buried at Webb Chapel Cemetery. They are available for research in the genealogy departments of several local libraries. The most recent project of PCHS was to coordinate with the Carrollton Public Library and to help pay for the digitization of the Carrollton Chronicle newspaper at UNT's The Portal to Texas History . (You can read more about this resource on our links page.) As of summer 2016, that project is now almost complete. Issues from January 3, 1913 through December 28, 1967 are now available online and they are searchable. The next project for PCHS is to coordinate the digitization of their journal Elm Fork Echoes.
We encourage you to attend their meetings. Guests are welcome and dues which are minimal go towards preservation projects. If you have questions or would like information about the Peters Colony Historical Society please contact Jan Jones at the email address below. |
