(Notes from Aunt Merriam)
(North Carolina Historical & Genealogical Register of 1900. Vol I, P. 82.)
A Thomas West of Perquimans died Apr. 28, 1735. Brothers were Thomas & Joshua. Also Mentioned in will of Wm Long, brother of Samuel & John Wiatt. This places a Joshua West in Perquimans in 1735 (if he was born in 1725 he would have been only 10 years old at the time).(William & Marys Quarterly. Vol I. P. 158.)
Among papers of Sir John Randolph of VA, a letter of pedegrees as follows: Wm, son of Robert and Rosa Rand, died 1670, 88 years. Md. Elizabeth, d. of Thomas Smith. Issue (1) Thomas who md Dorothy d. of Rich Law & widow of Thomas West.
(Could this Thomas West be the brother of Joshua Sr. and the same as the one who died in 1735???)------------------
Albert Bonney of Georgia is descended from Nathaniel Spence West. He claims Nathaniel had a brother named Joshua. If true, this would fit as Joshua had a son named William Spence West. Mr. Bonney claims the Spence come from Julia Spence, b. 1648 in London, England, who married Nathaniel West III, b. abt 1644 in London, England. According to IGI files they were married abt. 1663 in London. Nathaniel West III was evidently the son of Nathaniel West and Miss Jordan who were married about 1643 in London. Nathaniel III and Julia Spence in turn had a son named Nathaniel, who, according to Mr. Bonney, was the father of Nathaniel Spence West.
129. Sarah
All I know about Sarah at this point is that Josuah West Sr. was married to Sarah.
-------------------------
Sallie, or Sally, or Sarah, was married to Joshua West, the son of William West, who died Dec. 4, 1744. She had a son named Joshua West, who was born April, 1774 in Camden, North Carolina.
(I think we're confusing two Sarah's here. Sarah 1st had a son named Joshua Jr. who was born about 1755. According to his father's will (dated April 4, 1774) he was under 25 years old at that time. This makes for some confusion because there are four generations of Joshua's before we reach Joseph Simeon West who is my great grandfather.)
Mrs. Royall's Data. Camden Court House Records. Currituck County, N.C. speaks of Joshua West's wife Sarah and her will on April 4, 1774, which happens to be the same day her grandson was born (Joshua III).
