Andrew Mulholland (1830-1902) married Christina Keller (1835-1913) on 14 May 1853 in Essex County, New York. Andrew was born 20 May 1830 in County Armagh, North Ireland, and died 19 May 1902 in Viola, Olmsted County, Minnesota. Christina was born 17 May 1835 in Montgomery County, New York, and died 14 January 1913 in Viola, Olmsted County, Minnesota. In 1835 Andrew's mother, Elizabeth, left Ireland with him and son James and came to Montreal, Quebec, Canada. Andrew, James and mother Elizabeth moved to Long Lake, Hamilton County, New York (on 1860 census). Andrew enlisted in the Union Army 4 January 1864 and served until 10 February 1865. He was a private in Company B, 2nd Regiment of New York Heavy Artillery. Elizabeth and sons James and Andrew with wife, Christina, and their five children came to Viola, Olmsted, Minnesota, in 1865 to make their home.

Family Notes

Andrew Mulholland had a brother named James C Mulholland (1827-) who also
was born in County Armagh, North Ireland. It is thought that Andrew, brother
James and their mother Elizabeth Mulholland came to Montreal, Quebec, Canada
about 1835. They were on the 1860 Census for Long Lake, Hamilton County,
New York and after the Civil War moved to Minnesota. James married Mary F
Houghton in New York and had three children: Jenny, Daniel (m1894 Eva Swan), and
Sarah (m ? Perkl).

Surely he would not have put Canada in every entry if it were not so. Maybe he was confused and the question was, "Where are you from?" and of course he came from Canada to NY. He might NOT have understood they meant where were you born. Lynda
From: Lynda LeMay Date: February 04, 2001 >From Joni Mulholland DMulho3040 email dated 10/13/99 Obituary of James Mulholland (b1927IRE-1911MN) "A. J. Pirkl of St. Paul accompanied the remains of his father-in-law James Mulholland, here for the burial on Monday. The funeral wal held at the U.B. Church Tuesday afternoon. Rev. R. B. Emerson conducted the service, assisted by Rev. C. Miller. The text used was from Heb. 9:27. Interment was made in Oak Hill Cemetery. The Pall bearers were J. W. Lufkin, C. Pries, Hugh McHug(h?), F. H. Cummingham, Walter Smith and Milton McHugh. Those from away who attended the funeral were A. J. Pirkl, and Mr. and Mrs. R. A. Mulholland of Rochester. James Mulholland was born in N. Ireland in 1827. When young he came with his mother and one brother to Montreal, Canada. His father died prior to this time. He grew of manhood in Montreal and learned his trade, that of a blacksmith. They then moved to Long Lake N. Y. In November 1859, he was married to Miss Mary Houghton and remained in New York until 1865, when, with his family, he came to Viola MN where he has since resided with the exception of a few years spent in Michigan. He is survived by four children: Mrs. E. H. Hartman of Nebraska ??? Of Iowa, and Mrs. A. J. Pirkl and D. W. Mulholland, both of St. Paul. The three years just was spent at the home of his daughter Mrs. Pirkl where he died April 88, 1911, aged 84 years 2 months and 11 days old." Throughout this email Joni spelled it Pirkle.....which I believe is incorrect. Also she showed James died April 88, error, but I don't know if it should be 8, 18, or 28. I would want to see the article to recheck all information. I don't know quite what the Nebraska???Of Iowa is either. I'll keep watching for another possible email of this obit. Lynda
