ICH: I beleive that the following Anthony Eames may be the son of Anthony Eames who married 11 Dec 1724 to Grace Oldham of Marshfield, Plymouth, MA however I have no proof of this nor have I found proof yet. If this is the case, Anthony would also have Mayflower line through Grace Oldham. Anthony and Grace had four known children; Lemuel, Mercy, Elisha and Thomas. Between Elisha who was born 29 Sept 1729 and Thomas born ca 1739/40 I'm sure there were other children born, one being my Anthony.
Anthony Eames and his wife Hannah6 Eells moved to South Farms, Middletown, Middlesex, CT sometime after 1759 from MA. My maternal ggg grandfather Josiah Ames was only son of Anthony and Hannahs four sons to survive childhood and live to have a family of his own.Hannah6 Eells has two Mayflower lines from Richard1 Warren, through her mother Abiah5 Waterman, who was daughter of Joseph4 Waterman and and Lusanna4 Snow. Hiram Brundage, deceased, was born in Ontario County, N.Y., Nov. 15, 1822, and died at his home near Butler, Ind., March 10, 1880. He removed with his parents to Erie County, Ohio, in 1833, and there grew to manhood. In 1845 he came to Indiana and located in Allen County, and in 1848 came to De Kalb County. He learned the carpenter's trade when in Ohio, and made that his principal vocation through life. He was married Jan. 21. 1847, to Lousia A. Roberts, a native of Ontario County, N.Y., daughter of Collins Roberts, who came to Indiana in 1838, and located in Wilmington Township, De Kalb County. At that time the howl of the wolf was heard in the forest, and a few Indians remained here and there who frequently visited the homes of the white settlers. Mrs. Brundage was one of the early school teacher of the county. To Mr. and Mrs. Brundage were born six children; four are living---Mary, Lottie, and Calista and Celesta (twins). Mary is teacher of the A, Primary Department, of the Butler Schools; Lottie is also a well-known teacher of the county; Calista is the wife of Hiram McCollough, and Celesta remains at home with her mother. Mr. Brundage had been a member of some branch of the Christian church for thirty-seven years, the last twenty-five years of his life being a member of the United Brethren church. Roberts, son of Collins and Lana Clark Roberts, was born in Ontario County New York, Nov. 13 1884, and died at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Lewis Bloom, Nov. 9, 1912, aged 77 years, 11 months, and 27 days. At the age of five years, he came with his parents to Dekalb County, Indiana, locating on a farm five miles southwest of Butler. After a few years the family moved to Newville, where he grew to manhood, and acquired his education at what was then known as the Newville Academy. Later with his mother and sister removed to the farm upon which he had lived in early childhood. Nov. 25 1864, he was united in marriage to Almira Lowery, who preceeded him in death Dec. 30, 1888. To this union were born five children, William L., Mrs. Mary Bloom, Chancy, Lana, and Israel. In 1867 he moved to Defiance county Ohio which has eversince been his home. In 1873 he became identified with the children of god, and while his life has been quiet and unassuming, it has ever been in accordance with the principles of Christianity. Beers & Co., 36 Vesey Street, New York 1884 - Pages 242-263 - TOWN OF CROMWELL MANUFACTURING The upper factory in the Nooks burned about 1881; it was built by Edmund SAGE and occupied by him and his brother Elisha as a foundry. It was not very prosperous and soon passed into other hands. Various branches of business were undertaken without any great success and for some years before fire swept the buildings away, they were vacant. J. H. WARNER, and Martin R. WARNER began the manufacture of harness in this shop with William P. ALLISON in 1846. In 1849, they removed to their present location. Mr. William M. NOBLE entered the firm and they have done a very good though not extensive business. William P. ALLISON started the business of manufacturing hammers in the shop now occupied by colonel Dean ALLISON who succeeded his father. This factory has always been noted for the excellence of its wares. S. BOYNTON was born in Windsor county, Vermont, June 3, 1822. His father, Levi Boynton, was born in Vermont, and married Miss Mary Griswold of the same State. The subject of this sketch was married in Vermont, to Miss Paulina De May, who was born May 30, 1828, in Vermont. They had two children, viz: Ella and Ervin; the latter married in Vermont to Miss Katie Carrington, and resides in this township. Mr. Boynton came to this State in 1843, and located on a part of his present farm, and lived here seven years. In 1850, he returned to Vermont, and married as above stated; he brought his bride out to the West with him, to settle on the wide, wild prairies. They located on a farm of one hundred and eighty acres, partially improved. He now owns nine hundred and twenty acres, well improved; raises three hundred and twenty acres of small grain. Mr. Boynton is one of the wealthy farmers in this part of Sangamon county. In politics he is a Republican. Charles and Paulina had four children of which only two lived: Ervin D. Boynton born 11 Jan 1865 HISTORICAL ENCYCLOPEDIA OF ILLINOIS AND HISTORY OF SANGAMON COUNTY Volume II - Biographical Chicago: Munsell Publishing Company, Publishers 1912 BOYNTON, ERVIN D., general farmer and stock man, whose business ability is universally recognized the county over, is one of the most representative men of Sangamon. He was born December 15, 1858, on Section 30, Cartwright Township, near his present home on Section 18 of the same township. His parents were Charles and Paulina (De Mary) Boynton. The father was born in Westfield, Vt., June 3, 1822, and when only eight years old lost his parents so he made his home with an uncle, receiving only a district school education. When he reached his majority, Mr. Boynton left Vermont, coming direct to Springfield, where he spent but a short time, locating in Cartwright Township in 1843. Working by the month until he had saved some money, he bought a sawmill, selling it at a profit. He then bought and sold several others, the last one being disposed of after he had hauled it to Mr. Pleasant, Ia. He then invested in 160 acres of land in Cartwright Township, paying $3 per acre for it, and embarked in the business of buying and selling cattle. When the cattle were ready for market, he drove them to St. Louis or to Buffalo, N.Y. On September 8, 1850, he married, he and his wife commencing their housekeeping in a very primitive manner, but because of economy and good management, they soon became very prosperous. Mr. Boynton lived on this farm until his death, which occurred April 2, 1897. At this time he owned 1,000 acres of land, in addition to the 200 acres he had given each of his children. He was an active member and Deacon of the Baptist Church of Berlin. In politics he was first a Whig and later a Republican. Always bearing his full part in public matters, he was one of the representative older farmers of Sangamon County. His widow survives, making her home with Ervin D. Boynton and her daughter, Mrs. Warren, of Berlin. She is a most loveable lady, who has attained the age of eighty-three years, and is still very active in the Baptist Church. Five children were born to Mr. and Mrs. Boynton, of whom two survive, Mr. Boynton, and Ella, wife of C. B. Warren, a banker of New Berlin. He is connected with the Warren-Boynton Bank of New Berlin, one of the strongest banking institutions of the county. Ervin D. Boynton, attended district school and Brown's Business College of Jacksonville, and then returned to the farm, where he assisted his father. On November 18, 1880, he married Kate L. Carrington, of Riverton, Iowa, born in New Berlin, November 27, 1860, daughter of Wesley and Cassie (Grant) Carrington, natives of Kentucky, whose families were early settlers of Illinois. Mrs. Boynton's grandfather was a cousin of General Grant. Mr. Carrington moved to Riverton, but later went to Missouri, where he died, but his widow survives, living with her daughter, Mrs. Robert Oder, of Oklahoma. After their marriage, Mr. and Mrs. Boynton settled on their farm on Section 18, Cartwright Township, on which they have made many excellent improvements, developing it into one of the finest properties in the county. They have a beautiful home with all modern improvements, including hot and cold water, hot water heat and electric lights. The barns and other out-buildings are in like modern condition, and here they enjoy life surrounded by city conveniences. Eight children have been born to them: Lora, born October 3, 1881, married R. Gardner, a contractor and builder of Arapahoe, Okla.; Delia, born December 30, 1884, married H. Clyde Irvin on December 8, 1909, he being a farmer near Scranton, Ia.; Charles S., born October 3, 1886, married Lela Zane of Pleasant Plains, daughter of Robert H. Zane, a ketch of whom appears elsewhere in this work; Ben B., born October 1, 1888, taking a six years' course in the law department of Ann Arbor, Mich., a most brilliant student, possessing every requisite for a prosperous future; Edgar D., born December 14, 1890 at home; J. Farman, born November 21, 1893; Ruben R., born October 30, 1896, and Rhenna L., born May 16, 1899. The older children have been carefully educated and Mr. Boynton plans to pursue the same course with regard to the younger ones. For many years Mr. Boynton has been actively engaged in feeding and shipping stock, his annual shipment being about 500 head of cattle, but recently he has been leaving much of the details to his sons. In his home was put the first telephone in this part of the county, he having helped to organize the Boynton Telephone Co., in 1901. The company started with only forty patrons, but now have about 1,000, and the service is as nearly perfect as it is possible for any to be. He was also one of the organizers of the Building and Loan Co. of Pleasant Plains, of which he was President for several years. The Warren and Boynton State Bank, of New Berlin, was another enterprise in which he has been largely interested, helping to organize it in 1897 and serving as its President. This bank does a general banking business and is a very reliable institution. C. B. Warren is Cashier. Mr. Boynton owns 1,066 acres of land, all in Cartwright Township, which is highly developed. He has always advocated improvements and cheerfully paid the large increase in his taxes resulting from their inauguration. For fifty-two years he has made his home in Cartwright Township and is very much attached to it. Fraternally he belongs to the Knights of Pythias, the Court of Honor, D.O.K.K.'s and the Modern Woodmen of America. Politically he is a stanch Republican, and was the first of his party to be elected Supervisor form his township. He held this office for four years but since then has declined public office. In 1881, he was elected School Director, made Clerk of the Board, and for twenty-nine years has continued to give his services to his district, advocating the payment of good wages, and the erection of substantial school houses. Boynton settled in Colhoun township, Harrison, IA 1856 In 1856 BOYNTON & DAY erected a building, and placed on sale a large stock of general merchandise. They continued as partners until the spring of 1857, when BOYNTON sold to DAY. 1891 Harrison County Iowa History, pp. 395-397 Family Researcher: NA Nelson G. BOYNTON, a representative farmer of Calhoun Township, whose charming farmhouse is situated on section 29, came to Harrison County, February 12, 1856, and bought eighty acres, which is a part of his present farm. He paid five dollars per acre for the same, but did not make any improvements the first year. He being of a business turn of mind, persuaded himself that there was something to be made in the mercantile business, so he formed a partnership with Isaac W. Day, and put up a store building in the old village of Calhoun. This building was 20x36, and one story and a half high. The following autumn they stocked it with dry goods and groceries, and operated under the firm name of Day & BOYNTON, and continued together until the spring of 1857, when our subject sold to his partner, and at once commenced breaking up his land. But not having enough land to occupy his whole attention, he worked out for others at times. In the summer of 1861 he had cottonwood lumber sawed at the mill in Cincinnati Township and black-walnut at Calhoun, of which that autumn he erected a house 14x22 feet, one story high, boarding it up and down with the black-walnut lumber. A great National storm had been brewing for years, and our once peaceful land was now divided into two contending forces, the anti and pro-slavery elements. Each successive Congress waxed warmer and warmer. The radicals of the North and the radicals of the South, through their representatives, crossed swords in Congress; the press, the pulpit and the rostrum, with the more conservative element tried to avert the impending crisis, but the political conflict was irrepressible, and the blood of tens of thousands of the Nation's best men must needs be sacrificed for the purification of the Nation and the final overthrow of human slavery. Our subject watched with much interest the progress of the Civil War from April, 1861, to January 28, 1862, when he became impressed with the thought that it was his duty to take a personal part in the conflict. So he enlisted as a member of Company H, of the Fifteenth Iowa Infantry, and wore the loyal blue until honorably discharged at Vicksburg, February 20, 1864, and re-enlisted. February 21, 1864 -- the next day -- in the same regiment and company, and served until July 24, 1865, when he was discharged at Louisville, Ky. He participated in the battle of Shiloh, which had not its equal in the world's history at that time. Here he was wounded in the right hip. This laid him up three weeks, but he joined his company as soon as the surgeon would allow him to. He was also in the battles of Corinth, Iuka, and Vicksburg. He was also at the battle of Atlanta, where brave Gen. McPherson was killed, and where Gen. John A. Logan commenced his brilliant career. Here fifteen of our subject's company were taken prisoners. After coming out of the service, the last bugle having sounded and peace fully established, our subject returned to Harrison County, and like legions of his comrades, again became a tiller of the soil. To acquaint our readers with our subject's earlier career, it may be stated in this connection, that he was born May 12, 1832, in Wethersfield. Vt., and is the son of Levi and Mary (GRISWOLD) BOYNTON. The father was born. The father married Mary GRISWOLD, June 26, 1812. He passed from the scenes of this life at Wethersfleld, when our subject was but three years old, the date of his death being May 10, 1835. His mother died at the same place May 15, 1832, three days after his birth. It was found by referring to a genealogical register by Frederick Field, that Mrs. Mary (GRISWOLD) BOYNTON (mother of our subject) was born at Westfield, Conn., June 28, 1788, and was the second child of a family of ten children, born to Daniel and Anna (AMES) GRISWOLD. Daniel's ancestors date back to Sir Humphrey GRISWOLD, of Malvern Hall, England, but the first record of coming to this country, was when Edward and Mathew, brothers, came to America in 1645, and settled in Connecticut. Edward, the direct ancestor of Daniel, was born in England in 1607, married there and had a family of nine children, one of whom was John, who was born August 15, 1658, and married and had a family of four children, after which his wife died, and he was again married to Bathsheba NORTH, by whom eleven children were born, among whom was Joseph, born September 26, 1690. He married Temperance LAY, December 29, 1714, and had a family of children, one of whom was John, who married Mary WARD, and reared a family of twelve children, of whom David, father of Mrs. BOYNTON, was the eighth child. The date of his birth being December 5, 1762. He married Anna (SINTHAL) (ICH: Linthal) AMES, of South Farms, Middletown, Conn., in January, 1826, and they had a family of ten children. The mother was born February 17, 1764, and died June 8, 1826, and the husband was again married to Mrs. Abigal (DAVIS) WOODBURY, June 6, 1832, and she survived him. When our subject, Mr. BOYNTON, was three years old, he was left without father or mother, and went to live with his oldest sister, Mary SHERWIN, where he resided until he was seven years old, and then went to live with his next youngest sister, Emily ROBINSON, of Addison County, Vt., and during the two years with them, they moved to Washington County. In each of these two counties our subject attended district school. At the age of sixteen he returned to Windsor County, where his sister, Martha TOPEY, lived, and there remained until twenty-one years of age. In the nineteenth year of his age he attended the Springfield Wesleyan Seminary one term, and in October, 1853, he, with about one thousand dollars in money (the most of which had been bequeathed him by his parents), "started West to grow up with the country." He came to Sangamon County, Ill., where for one year he worked out by the month, and the next year rented land. In January, 1856, he again started West, this time making his way on horseback to Harrison County, Iowa, where he had friends living. By exposure on the way he froze his face and ears, and that night travelled until ten o'clock before he could get a place to stay. At that late hour of the night he reached Winterset. After having pioneered it in Harrison County, and marched and tented and fought under the burning Southern sky, with none but men for companions, our subject very naturally, after the close of the war, sought the heart and hand of one of the gentler sex, and upon January 2, 1867, he was married to Mrs. Hattie (CUTLER) DAY, a native of Illinois, and May 22, 1867, she died. July 3, 1888, after having lived a widower for eleven years, he was united in marriage to Mrs. Irena (BEST) ELMA, a native of Adams County, Wis. By this marriage union two children were born -- Carrie I. and Ida M. Politically, Mr. BOYNTON is a Republican. He belongs to no church or civic society. He has seen the hardships coincident to pioneer life, having hauled wheat to Council Bluffs, and sold it for 35 cents, one-half being in trade, at that. He now has in his home farm six hundred and eight acres, and all told seven hundred and twenty-two acres, of which about two hundred are under the plow; three hundred and sixty in pasture, and the balance in timber and meadow. Since living in Iowa, he has made four trips to the old Green Mountain State, where he was born, and attended the Centennial, in 1876, at Philadelphia. The BOYNTON family hold reunions each year, and are now publishing a family genealogical record, which cannot fail of being of much value. To thoroughly understand part of this man's success, it should be stated that he has never allowed his name to be presented for any public office, believing that he had all he could do, and do well, to remain at home, and attend to his own private interests, let alone the interests of the public. The house he erected in 1861 has served as a shelter from the cold blasts in winter and the sun and rains of the summer -- just thirty years -- and in the autumn of 1891 Mr. BOYNTON and family moved into their new apartments, which is a large two-story frame house, second to none in the township in way of architecture or finish.
