1. Jeremiah Smith born ca 1744 New Jersey will written 7 May 1782 proved 1807 Franklin twp, Somerset, NJ
Research: I have a copy of Jeremiah Smith's will dated 7 May 1782, proved 9 Oct 1807 from New Jersey Archives; also listed in Calendar of Wills - 1806-1809 page 309. He listed all children as shown on this family page. Family history and other family researchers for the Randall and Linn families show that Jeremiah's wife may have been a Bogardus. Jeremiahs' unknown wife died around Feb 1781 in New Jersey. Family tradition says she died a few months after the birth of last child Sarah, who was born 17 Oct 1780. Jeremiah's wife's mother is said to have died on Staten Island from a fall down attic stairs at her home. Some of Jeremiahs' younger children were living with his mother in law on Staten Island after his wife died. When the grandmother died, Sarah the youngest went to live with a sister in New York City.

The childrens names listed in Jeremiah's will are the same names written in old letters of the my Randall/Smith/Churchill lines.

he may be the Gabriel Smith who married 11 May 1791 to Elizabeth Selnave both of Elizabethtown by Rev. Menzies Rayner, Rector of St. John's Protestant Episcopal church in Elizabethtown

Gabriel was still living in Montgomery, Somerset, NJ Oct 1802 as shown on land sale record
Gabriel is most likely the Gabriel Smith who lived in Milton, Saratoga, NY as this is where most of the family moved...

Research: From old family stories: Sarah is said to have been married twice, her first husband name is not known. When Sarah and first husband were married he immediately went to sea and was lost. He was said to have been a first mate on Capt. Samuel Angel's ship which was also lost at sea.

Family tradition has it that Jeremiah Smith's daughter Sarah's first husband died aboard a boat owned or operated by Samuel Angle. Perhaps Samuel was aboard when it went down.
