Notes from cousin Clark Whelton: Isaac and Nancy lived in a house below and across the road from China Neck cemetery where they are buried. In 1818 Isaac bought property farther along the Neck Road, and about 1820 building the beautiful house, using bricks where they were probably made right there on the property. When Isaac and Nancy and their children moved into this new home, the smaller house was given to the second son Noah. the two sons, Lot and Noah married sisters, Mary and Lavinia Hawkes, daughters of Lemuel and Abigail Hawkes. Mary Randall Jones later inherited the brick house after she had married her cousin, Alfred H. Jones, in 1847.
From Parris Varney current owner of the childhood home of our great-grandmother, Avis Keene Jones Clough, in South China, Maine... The house (which is quite large) was known as "The beautiful house" and was built by Avis' father, Isaac Jones, around 1820. The following information was sent to cousin Clark Whelton:
Parris wrote.... Attached is a deed I found in Augusta at the registry of deeds....

Maine Biographies, Vol I, Records, page 103
Howard H. Boody son of Henry H. Boody
Howard born and raised in North Windham, ME, Howard H. Boody now (1928) conducts one of the largest general                  stores in the State. Moreover, as one of the best versed men in Maine in economic and political affairs, and as                           an extensive property and real estate owner in North Windham, he has had an important part to play in local                          matters. He was born at North Windham on December 16, 1862, the son of Henry H. Boody, of Limington, ME,                          who died in 1877, and of Eliza L. (Lombard) Boody, who died in 1902, his father having been a merchant as well as                    interested in the lumber industry. After attending the public schools in North Windham, Howard H. Boody                               entered business directly. When only twenty years of age he became a merchant. Since then his record has                                been on of earnest endeavor and integrity, and his rewards have been numerous, commercially and politically. For                         the las twenty-five years, under changing administrations, he has been postmaster at North Windham. In 1924                                he was elected representative to the State Legislature, and he has held at one time or another virtually all of                  the public offices within the power of the town to give him. He is president of the Windham Mutual Fire                              Insurance Company, and holds a large amount of stock and a place on the board of directors in several of the                               largest businesses in the State. It is perhaps singular that a man so strong in commerce and so favored in olitics              should belong to no fraternal orders of local clubs; but such is the case with Mr. Boody. He and his family are                          member of the Union church. On 23 Nov 1888, Mr. Boody married Mary C. Westcott, of Standish, Maine,                                 daughter of William Westcott and Caroline (Bolton) Westcott.

Notes from cousin Clark Whelton: Isaac and Nancy lived in a house below and across the road from China Neck cemetery where they are buried. In 1818 Isaac bought property farther along the Neck Road, building, and about 1820 the beautiful house, using bricks where they were probably made right there on the property.

Jones papers:
Clarkson Jones married Alvina Runnells, sister of Mary Ann, and they evidently lived in Josiah's house for a time after their marriage eventually moving to a house at Dirigo. Alvina became an invalid in the summer of 1860 when she was picking cherries and the ladder tipped over. She suffered greatly, "Oh the sufferings of this poor body are past description," she wrote in her diary, "May God see fit to heal me." She started her diary the day after her seven months old son, Lindley, died in 1854. A year later, Frederick Dilwin, was born and when he was eight years old, Alvina feared that she was not being firm enough with him. "He naturally has a very fretty disposition and very willful, he being the only child, perhaps I have humored him too much." It sounds as though this boy was a true Jones, as described by Eli, the Jones race having a strong will. Fred was very ill when he was five and she nearly lost that son, but he fortunately recovered.
Alvina was obsessed by a sense of sin and her shortcomings, and she was often miserable both in body and mind. At one dark moment she was able to rejoice because "three of the very best Friends came to see me in the afternoon, ones I always thought the most of and dearly love, ... Mary Cook Jones, Peace Jones, (The Heavenly Twins) and Hannah Tuttle Jenkins. The third son, Isaac Lincoln, was born a week before his mother's death. Her last entry in the diary was December 12, 1864 a few days before Lincoln's birth on Christmas Day.

Jones papers:
Lincoln and Lora lived in his father's homestead at Dirigo, where he was a farmer until 1909 when brother Frederick persuaded Lincoln to move to CA and work with him in the bookstore. They sold everything and took their five youngest children out west. Barclay Lincoln Jones the eldest was 16, remained behind to continue his schooling at Oak Grove Seminary and visit with his grandparents, Oscar and Henrietta Sibley. The move proved to be a mistake as Lincoln was a farmer at heart and he was not interested in running the store. In 1911 Lincoln brought the family back to South China, settling in Hillside, the house on the right hand side of Pond Road, now neaar the top of the "old Road". All the children attended Oak Grove, Barclay, Roscoe and Harvey continued at Moses Brown School in Providence, RI, from which Barclay and Harvey went to Brown University. Barclay secured a graduate degree in chemistry, taught at Westtown School in PA and was made Headmaster of Friends Central School in Overbrook, PA in 1925 where he remained until his untimely death in 1945.

The Wright Family Genealogy by Thomas Wright online at RootsWeb.com has the following about Blackie which was his obit:

BLACKINTON WILLARD "BLACKIE" Jan. 8, 1907 - Sept. 4, 2003 96 Yrs old. He was born in a tent in El Centro, California in 1907 and was fond of reminiscing about trips made with his father back and forth between El Centro and Coronado in a Model T Ford. His family, including five siblings, made a one-month trip in a horse and buggy from El Centro to Yosemite where they camped on the edge of Mirror Lake. He attended elementary school in Coronado and had memories of singing with his second grade class for one of the opening ceremonies of the 1915 Panama California Exposition at the Spreckels Organ Pavillion where his son is now the Organ Curator. In 1916 the family moved to an apple orchard in LeGrande, Oregon. He had an inquisitive mind and enjoyed experimenting with autos, electricity, radios, and photography. He also enjoyed playing the violin. In 1924 at sixteen, he quit school to take a job as a Machinist ' s apprentice with the Union Pacific Railroad to help support the family. Times were tough and in 1926 the family moved to Los Angeles where Willard completed his apprenticeship and his high school education at age twenty. He turned down a scholarship to Cal Tech to continue to help the support of the family. During the Depression he and his brother traveled to Arizona in a motorcycle and sidecar to pick cotton for a brief time. He took a job as a railroad machinist with the American Potash Company in the dessert at Trona, California. While there, he became interested in aviation and acquired a small plane to commute back and forth to Los Angeles. He met his wife Miriam while playing in a church orchestra and they were married in 1935. They honeymooned in Ensenada and while passing through San Diego saw a billboard that Consolidated Aircraft (Convair) was hiring machinists. They stopped to inquire, he was hired and they moved to San Diego. In 1940 World War II was beginning and there was a shortage of machinists for the war effort. Willard had made an impression on his superiors and was recommended to become an instructor at the newly opened San Diego Vocational School where he helped establish the machine shop apprenticeship program. He continued his education at night and summers with the University of California to acquire his teaching credential. The Vocational School was later became part of San Diego City College where he taught for 33 years until retirement in 1973. He was known by his students and associates as ``Blackie ' ' . In 1942 he and Miriam bought property in La Mesa and he became an avocado rancher to supplement his teaching income. He also became interested in beekeeping. His interest in private aviation continued and he owned two different small aircraft. He and Miriam traveled extensively in their planes with many trips across the country made prior to modern aircraft electronic navigation systems. He was vitally interested in life and the world around him and never stopped learning. He became thoroughly immersed in everything he undertook and until death his mind was an encyclopedia of facts and details. He and Miriam were frugal with themselves but generous with others and were instrumental in establishing several endowments and scholarships. His life spanned an age from the horse and buggy to space travel and from candlelight to high tech electronics. He experienced the stress of ``little ' ' and the blessings of ``much ' ' . He is survived by his wife of sixty eight years, Miriam; his son and daughter in-law, Lyle and Barbara of La Mesa, three grand daughters; Dorene Harlow of San Jose, Eileen Ehle of La Mesa, Jeaneen Davis of La Mesa and seven great grandchildren. He was interred on September 6th at Singing Hills Memorial Park with all of his family in attendance to remember his life.
