Liverpool - September 12 - Mrs. Sarah Elizabeth Payzant, widow, died at her home in Western Head, Queens County, on Wednesday after a long period of ill health. Mrs. Payzant was born in Western Head 78 years ago and was a daughter of the late James and Elizabeth Naugler of that place. She had not been able to leave the house for a number of years and during the past 3 years her condition had grown worse. She was confined to her bed for the past 6 weeks. In her younger years she took an active part in the life of the Church of England at Western Head and at one time was the organist there. She was conversationalist and young people delighted to gather around her chair to hear stories of long-past happenings in the community. Her husband Asa Payzant died in February 1937 and she is survived by two sons and four daughters: Captain Albertus A. Payzant of Liverpool, William Payzant of Western Head, Mrs. Linwood Fralick (Florence) of Halifax, Mrs. Roy Hiltz (Annie) of Port Medway, Mrs. Joseph Gerhardt (Sadie) of Western Head, and Mrs. Victor Charlton (Jessie) of Halifax who has been with her mother for the past 3 years and tenderly cared for her during her long illness. Also surviving are twenty-two grandchildren and a number of great-grandchildren. Two sons and one daughter predeceased her. Ernest Payzant at Port Medway, Charles Payzant in the West Indies, and Miss Effie Payzant at home. The funeral was held on Friday afternoon with a short service at the house followed by service at Grace Church, Western Head. The Rev. J. M. C. Wilson, rector of Liverpool conducted and burial was in Western Head Cemetery. Parents: John Jacob James NAUGLER and Mary Elizabeth FRELICK.
