Alta Devenport

LONE OAK - [Serena] Alta Devenport of Greenville died Thursday [26-Aug-1999] at her residence. Funeral Services will be at Weiland Church of Christ at 3 p.m. today with Delton Alexander officiating. Burial will be in Weiland Cemetery.

Born July 10, 1920 in McKinney, she was the daughter of Lonnie Green and Lillie Jones Green. She married Virgil Devenport on Nov. 21, 1941. She was a housewife. Mrs. Devenport was a member of Weiland Church of Christ.

Surviving are a sister, Faye Barns of Garland; two daughters, Patsy Lemons of Lone Oak, and Sharon Horton of Greenville; two brothers, Clyde Green of Mesquite and Carl Green of Fort Worth; six grandchildren and four great- grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by a son, Kenneth Wayne Devenport and her husband.

Pallbearers will be Jeff Lemons, Wes Lemons, Chad Horton, Cole Horton, Gary Phillips and Dolores Ramirez.


Mrs. Devenport Dies at Home

Mrs. W. N. Devenport, 76, a resident of the Weiland Community her entire life, died suddenly at her home at 7 o'clock Wednesday morning [21-Jan-1959].

Funeral services will be held at 3:30 p.m. Thursday at the Weiland Church of Christ. Officiating will be T. S. Teddlie and Allen Harper. Burial will be in the Weiland Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be C. W. McKinney, Troy Nalls, Raymond Graves, Hermann McCord, F. O. Jackson, Roy Angell. Named as honorary pallbearers are C. W. Bartlett and Claude Atwell.

The body will rest at the family residence in Weiland. Funeral arrangements are being made by Gray-Sorrells Funeral Home.

Born August 4, 1882 Mrs. Mary Louise Devenport had spent her entire life in the same community. She was the daughter of Henry Hassellfield, a native of Germany and Amanda Stark Hasselfield a native of Missouri, and was a member of the Church of Christ.

Surviving are her husband, W. N. Devenport, whom she married on January 4, 1903; sons, Lloyd Devenport, Newton Devenport, both of Greenville, Virgil Devenport and Bernard Devenport of Weiland; brothers, Freddie Hasselfield, Quinlan, Barnie Hasselfield, Tivoli, Texas; a sister, Mrs. J. D. Gray, Greenville; eight grandchildren; six great-grandchildren, and a number of nieces and nephews.

Montie Devenport

Montie Lee Devenport, 78, of Quinlan died Thursday [03-Feb-2000] at Presbyterian Hospital of Greenville. There is a graveside service at 2 p.m. Saturday at Wieland Cemetery with Rev. Bill Reisor officiating.

The son of George W. Devenport and Mary P. Davidson Devenport, he was born April 28, 1921 in Wolfe City. On May 10, 1943, he married Essie Ratliff in Greenville.

Mr. Devenport was a veteran, serving in the U.S. Army during World War II. He built planes at E-Systems. He was a Baptist.

He is survived by sons Vennis Devenport and wife Jan of Garland and Vernon R. Devenport and wife Candi of California; a daughter, Wanda L. Nowlin of Oklahoma, 10 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his wife in 1996 and by his parents.

Visitation is from 6 to 8 p.m. today at Peters Funeral Home.
