The military service of John Santee

John Santee was commisioned as a Captain in the Northampton County PA Militia, 9 May 1776. The Pennsylvania Archives have many references to his military service:-

XIV 588 John Santee, Capt. May 21 1777, 8th Co. No meaning to the date is given
629 John Santee appointed Capt, Sept 5 1776, by the committee of safety which had just taken over the work of the courts until the close of the war, at Easton, as Capt of the first Batt of the Second Division of the Flying Camp. These Flying Camp members were each given £3 as a bounty.

At a meeting held Sept 10, 1776, John Ludwig was appointed First Lieut to Capt John Santee.

632 At a meeting od the committee held Dec 1776, John Connolly made complaint that after he has been made a Lieut under Capr John Santee, he had enlisted three men and paid each his £3 bounty and that they had since enlisted under Capt Alex Patterson. "Ordered that Capt Patterson return said money. Ordered that Capt John Santee march with his men to near Trenton and join the Continental Army"

127 Capt. John Sentee. Signs this certificate: "I do certify the within to be a just and true return of my Company as they are severally classed. Witness my hand the 16th day of May, Anno Dom 1780".
153 John Santee substituted for George Huber, 57 days in 1781
156 John Santee, Capt, signed to this certificate: "This is to certify that George Hertzel has Serveth his tour of Duty in my Company in the Second Class and I do hereby discharge him this 15th day of Sept 1781"
167 John Santee, Capt, signed: "This is to certify that Jacob Maurer was out in Militia Duty, thirty two days with me in the Eighth Class over mountain in August last part. Of me"
170 John Santee substituted for William Meaford, 15 days served by certificates and 38 days on the frontier. Discharged May 28, 1782
197 John Santee, Captain, certifies the names of all in his district liable to militia duty during the year 1782. He must have been injured, for it is the only time he signs with a mark.

370 John Santee, Capt, is given in a list of officers of the 5th Batt. Northampton Co Militia
516 John Santee, Capt, on May 10 1783, ordered a new election and he was again elected Capt.
535 John Santee. At a meeting of the standing committee according to adjournment, at Easton, the 5th day of September, 1776. "In pursuance of the resolves of convention requiring this county to find 278 men as the second quota for the flying camp. The following officers of the Militia are recommended". Among the list is John Santee for Captain. "John Ludwig is appointed first Lieut to Capt John Santee, and John Connelly is appointed second Lieutt to the same".
