Welcome to the Archive page of the Williscroft, Woolliscroft, Wolliscroft and Variants Worldwide Onename Study.
As a one name study and member of the Guild of One Name studies I collect references to the Williscroft, Wool(l)iscroft, Wolliscroft and variants surname worldwide. My database also includes data from numerous researchers who have shared their families history with me since I started the study back in the 1980's.
I am in the process of making this information accessible through the Williscroft Database and the Williscroft archives at the Guild of One Name Studies.
The database contains re-constructed family trees, documents and photographs. It is still very much work in progress.
I have also published indexes to Civil Registration in England, Scotland and Wales, Pre 1837 Marriages in Great Britain and Newspapers from England, Scotland, Wales, Ireland, Canada, New Zealand, Australia and the Unted States.
The records are indexed by the individuals first name and year of event. They can also be searched by the area/state/county and country in which they were living. There are additional search fields provided depending on the record type.
Civil Records
Civil marriages can be searched by spouses surname from 1837
Civil births can be searched by mothers maiden name from 1837
British Isles Marriages, 1536 to 1836
This includes information on marriages in the UK I have transcribed from parish records, newspapers, documents and other sources prior to the commencement of Civil Registration in 1837. The index is searchable by the individuals name and also the name of their spouse and location. Most of the entries are for England but it also has information from Scotland, Ireland and Wales.
Newspaper Indexes
At present I have indexed 1,200 references to the surname in newspapers from Great Britain, Australia, New Zealand, Canada, Jamaica and the United States.
The indexes can be searched by:
- State/County of publication.
- State/County and country where the individual was living.
- Reference subject:
- article
- crime & punishment
- legal notices
- family notices - includes births, engagements and other ‘family events’
- marriages
- bereavement - includes death notices, funeral notices, obituaries, probate and inquests. The type of article is listed in the notes section.
