Elizabeth is a bit of a mystery to me. On the 1861 & 1871 Elizabeth gives “Southampton, St Helier, Jersey” as her place of birth. To my knowledge there isn’t a Southampton in Jersey. I knew that the Royal Artillery spent time there and I had thought she might be Alexander’s daughter from a previous marriage. However, when she married for a second time in 1866 she stated her father was George Williscroft an ‘agent’.

I have place her with the Irish families as she most likely married her first husband James Keary in Ireland where her four oldest children were born. The couple moved to Manchester, Lancashire in the mid 1850’s and their son Isaac was born in Manchester about 1856. George died in 1860 and was a stone mason from the information Isaac gave when he married. In 1861 Elizabeth was a widow living at 4 Abercrombie Street with her five children. Elizabeth was a housekeeper. Her son James was an estate agent and daughter Elizabeth was working in the cotton mills. The younger children were at school.
Elizabeth married widower Samuel Broadbent in 1866. In 1871 Elizabeth & Samuel Broadbent were living at 1 Warborough Street, New Cross, Manchester where Samuel was a tailor. Elizabeth's son Isaac was living with the couple. Isaac worked in the cotton mills in calico printing.
Samuel Broadbent was from Leeds in Yorkshire. He had one daughter Emma from his first marriage. After Elizabeth's death in 1877 he moved to Barrow in Furness to live with his daughter Emma and her husband Joseph Thompson. He died there in 1894.
