John Wooliscroft  c1730- of Mappleton, Derbyshire
       

John was living in Ilam, Staffordshire in 1763 when he married his wife Elizabeth Hutton. The couple moved to Stanhope, Alstonefield and then to Mappleton, Derbyshire. Where John is recorded as tenant of Samuel Hutton in the Land Tax Records for 1798. This is possibly his father in law. John is also mentioned in the will of his brother Thomas as living in Mappleton in 1783. John’s wife Elizabeth died at Mappleton in 1803. The couple appear to have had three children Samuel b.1764, Elizabeth b.1766, Hannah b.1770 and possibly Mary b. c1770.

John’s daughter Elizabeth Woolliscroft moved to Lancaster where she was living with her daughter Ann and Ann’s husband William Bagot in 1841. Elizabeth died in August 1841 and was buried at Lancaster Priory. Her death was reported in the “Kendal Mercury” on the 28th August.  Elizabeth’s daughter Ann was baptised at Bradley in Derbyshire in 1801 although she gives her place of birth as Mappleton on later census returns. Ann was living in Lancaster in 1821 when she was a witness at the marriage of Ann Herd and Abraham Templeman. She married William Bagot, a plumber and glazier, at St Mary’s, Lancaster in 1823. William and Ann are known to have had twelve children but only four survived beyond childhood. Elizabeth is buried with her grandchildren at St Mary’s together with William’s father John. William died in 1859 and Ann died in 1874.

Mary Woolliscroft who may be the sister of Elizabeth, died in Cromford, Derbyshire in 1797. She had two sons out of wedlock. Jonathan was baptised at Cromford in 1794 and died in 1869. Jonathan does not appear to have married or had children. His brother William Woolliscroft was baptised in 1790 at Cromford he move to Manchester where he married Elizabeth Barnes in 1820. William died in 1860 and his wife in 1871. William and Elizabeth do not appear to have had surviving children.
