Most, but not all, people who bear the name Woolliscroft, Wooliscroft or Wolliscroft today find their origins in Northern Staffordshire around the villages of Cauldon and Alton. Gradually they have migrated to different places throughout England, Wales and Scotland. In the 1800's other Woolliscroft's emigrated to the United States. More recently they have settled in the Canada, New Zealand and South Africa.

In the late 1600's the name could be found in records in Derbyshire. In the mid to late 1700's it is recorded in records in Cheshire, Lancashire, London and Yorkshire. In the early 1800's the first reference to the name is found in Scotland and Wales.
The Woolliscroft’s have been the land owners and farmers. Others have been trades people, potters, butchers, grocers, sugar merchants and publicans to name a few! Yet others have been involved with the mining industry of North Staffordshire. They were not always law abiding citizens.
On these pages I plan to follow the migration of different people who bear the name in the United Kingdom during the 19th and 20th century. You will also find information on those individuals, who in my opinion, have something interesting to say.
