Alfred "Brownie" Johnson, 72, of Willseyville, N.Y., passed away Monday, Sept. 25, 2006, at the Ashton Healthcare Facility, Athens, Pa.Born June 24, 1934, in Terry Township, Pa., he was the son of the late Esmond and Dellphine Vanderpool Johnson.
Alfred was a gentle-natured man who enjoyed country music, dancing, fishing and auctions. He was a member of the Towanda American Legion Post No. 42, Loyal Order of Moose, Ithaca, N.Y. and the VFW Skiff-Bower Post 1536, Sayre, Pa.
He was predeceased by: his daughter, Candy L. Johnson; brothers, Cecil Sr., Carl and Esmond Johnson; and sisters, Louise Mosier, Arlene Vanderpool and Evelyn Hyatt.
He is survived by: his wife, Julia Quick Johnson of Willseyville; children, Alfred "Dale" Johnson and Darlene DeVoe, of Forestport, N.Y., Lucinda Jane Chacon, of El Paso, Texas, Donald Johnson, of El Paso, Melissa Ann and Tim Champagne, of El Paso, and Tina Louise and Raul Hernandez, of El Paso; stepsons, Daryl Quick of Willseyville and LaVerne Quick and Rebecca, of Willseyville; 19 grandchildren, six great-grandchildren; siblings, Beatrice Gullispie, of Wyalusing, Sherman and Ruth Johnson, of Towanda, Hazel and Leroy Elliott, of Ulster, Virginia Johnson, of Sayre, Bernita Wright, of Sayre, Bernetta Ellis, of Elmira, N.Y., and Gladys Merritt, of Wyalusing; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Friends and family may call from 10 to 11 a.m. on Thursday, Sept. 28, at the Jay E. Lowery Funeral Home Inc. 225 S. Main St., Athens. Funeral Services will follow at 11 a.m. at the funeral home with the Rev. James Donahoo officiating. Military honors will be accorded by the Towanda American Legion Post No. 42.
