DEATH TAKES MRS. J. O. CARR

Pioneer Resident of Half-Century Succumbs to Breakdown

Following a telegram conveying news of the sudden illness of Mrs. Agnes K. Carr, widow of James O. Carr, at Iron Mountain, another came this morning telling of her death Tuesday afternoon at the home of her only daughter, Mrs. James R. Carpenter with whom she was at present making her home.
Immediately upon receipt of the telegram Tuesday morning, Oscar J. Carr left for Iron Mountain, but death occurred before he could reach there. No special cause is ascribed for her death, which was totally unexpected, and due to a general break-down incident to age, the end coming peacefully and suddenly, Mrs. Carr having simply slept away.

Mrs. Carr, Agnes K. Steele, was one of the real pioneers of this county, coming here as a young girl in the late 60's from Canada where she had been previously living with her parents, sturdy Scotch people who came to Canada when she was a girl of eight years. In 1871 on March 28, her marriage, one of the earliest on record in this county, to Mr. Carr occurred, the ceremony being performed at the Boggs Hotel, which will be recalled by old residents as an old landmark located near the river at Water street.

The Carrs were pioneer farmers of this county, settling in Maple Ridge at what is still known as the Orchard Hill farm, Mr. Carr being actively identified with the political and civic life of the township, having held several public offices. Mrs. Carr was beloved by all the community and as was customary in those days, was a real neighbor and friend to all with the kindliest sympathies.

Later in life, the Carrs disposed of their farm and came to this city where they made their home until the time of Mr. Carr's death in 1914. Since that time, Mrs. Carr has made her home among her children at Hubbard Lake and at Iron Mountain. Mrs. Carr was a woman of great vitality for her age which would have been 77 years on May 23, 1924. Only last summer, she took an automobile trip to Iron Mountain with her son, Oscar J. Carr, and expressed her pleasure in the trip.

The surviving children are Mrs. James R. Carpenter (Elsie Carr) of Iron Mountain, Asa B. Carr and Robert J. Carr of Hubbard Lake, and County School Comm. Oscar J. Carr of this city. No funeral arrangements have yet been made, but interment will be made in Evergreen cemetery in this city in the Carr family lot.
