MRS. ASA CARR
Mrs. Asa Carr, 80, of 410 Lockwood, died at 6 a.m. Sunday at Alpena hospital where she had been hospitalized almost three weeks. She had been ill for some time.
Gertie Wilson was born Oct. 28, 1878 in Canada and moved to Detroit with her parents as a girl. In 1888 they came to Alpena where her father, the late Fred Wilson, was a carpenter on the old Alpena High school.
On June 19, 1907 she was married to Mr. Carr, who served as a rural mail carrier at Hubbard Lake for 30 years. They resided at Hubbard Lake until 1946 when they moved to their Lockwood-st residence. Mr. Carr died July 19, 1953.
Mrs. Carr was a member of the First Methodist church and the Women's Society for Christian Service.
Surviving are one son, Elwood of Alpena; two daughters, Mrs. Howard Rajala (Grace) and Mrs. Harmas Dagenais (Lula), both of Hubbard Lake; 11 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; three brothers, Fred E. Wilson of Alpena, Harry of Lansing and Ralph Elwood of Tucson, Ariz.
Mrs. Carr's body is at the Hunter funeral home where service will be Wednesday at 3. The Rev. Allen B. Rice II, of the First Methodist church, will officiate. Committal in the cemetery chapel will be followed by interment in Evergreen cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Clayton Hunt, Thomas Manning, Myles McArthur, William Scott, Eric Timm, and Sgt. Kenneth White.
